This site provides graphic visualisations, images and timelines about the costs of World War One.All data is based on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission records from August 4th 1914 - November 11th 1918.

From learning about your local heroes to helping your community mark the centenary, there are plenty of ways you can get involved in commemorating the First World War.

The British Commission for Military History is a forum for discussion and promotion of military history in the broadest sense, i.e. naval, air and army.

Europeana 1914-1918 ~ untold stories & official histories of WW1 ~ brings together resources from three major European projects each dealing with different types of First World War material: Stories from the public, National Collections and Film Archives

The Football and the First World War Project will create a central database of information related to the sport of Association Football during the Great War. Data will be collated by anyone interested in the subject matter, including ‘Citizen Historians’, who will work together to present information available to academics, researchers and family historians worldwide.
The Project aims to create a lasting legacy for the centenary of the First World War.

The Siegfried Sassoon Fellowship hosts WW1 centenary events and lists forthcoming publications of potential interest

The Archives Hub provides descriptions of archives held in UK universities and colleges and a number of research institutes and museums. It does not hold any archives but rather provides a means to cross-search descriptions of archives held across the UK. 

A site produced independenty by Chris Barker (a member of the University of Birmingham Centre for First World War Studies). The aim of the site is to present a factual account of the British Army during WWI. It site also contains information to help in family history research relating to the War and Armed Forces.

Legacies of War is a University of Leeds run project exploring the legacies of WWI locally, nationally and internationally via work with people and institutions.

First World War
A Multimedia History of World War One featuring histories of WWI from its causes to its end, various multimedia including maps and propaganda posters, and narratives such as poetry and memoirs.

The WWI section of this site contains a short history of the period plus a number of videos, speeches and photo galleries.

This website has been set up for the PBS television series 'The Great War and the Shaping of the 20th Century.' It contains some interesting resources such as a time line, glossary of terms, maps, and battle descriptions.

The Aerodrome features information regarding WWI aviation, with several pages concerning the British Air Forces.

As well as providing information on the association, this site also contains articles, maps, photographs and a time line of the Great War on the Western Front. 

The Gallipoli Campaign, also known as the Dardanelles Campaign, the Battle of Gallipoli or the Battle of Çanakkale (Çanakkale Savaşı), was a World War I campaign that took place on the Gallipoli peninsula in the Ottoman Empire between 25 April 1915 and 9 January 1916.

Information, including descriptive letters from local newspapers across the UK, regarding the Christmas Day truce of 1914, and links to other articles, books, and websites which also focus on this event.

Lancashire Reads is a simple idea, but an ambitious task - to get as many Lancashire people as possible to all read the same book.
This year, our chosen book is Private Peaceful, this poignant story of the World War One from former Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo. Lots of copies are available to borrow from all our Libraries, so everyone really can read the same book and we'll be holding special Lancashire Reads events during the year. #LancashireReads
