• NUFORC has received a number of telephone calls, as well as written reports, of a dramatic fireball that was seen at approximately 21:44 hrs. (EDT) on Sunday night, March 29, 2009 .
• One witness in South Hill , Virginia , reported having been witness to a large fireball, its apparent size larger than the (apparent) size of the full Moon, in the eastern sky, which lasted for a few seconds.
• She reported that she was driving east, and looking straight ahead, when she saw the object streak from her left to right, moving parallel to a horizontal line.
• She added that it appeared to her to make a sudden change of course, and then descend, before disappearing beyond her horizon.

• The object generated a visible tail, according to this witness.
• Other reports were submitted from Annapolis , MD ; White Lake , NC ; Virginia Beach , VA ; and Norfolk , VA. I suspect that more reports will be forthcoming soon.
• My first guess would be that the object may have been a dramatic meteor, but that is pure surmise, at this point.
• No "terminal burst" has been reported for the object, yet, which is somewhat unusual for a meteor that was as dramatic as reported, based on my experience.

• Were they meteors? A comet? UFOs?
• People from Maryland to Hampton Roads heard loud explosions and saw brilliant, streaking lights in the sky Sunday night.
• There was no immediate explanation, the National Weather Service office in Wakefield said. The Virginia Beach 911 center had numerous calls waiting just before 10 p.m., a supervisor said.
• The Weather Service said reports were made from Dorchester County, Md., to the Virginia/North Carolina border. People said they saw a streak in the sky and heard an explosion.
• “It was orange, like a fireball,” said Steve Wagner, who lives in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake and said what he saw was too close to be a shooting star.
• Wagner was outside cooking with family when he saw the streak. He said he went inside when his daughter called, then heard an explosion that sounded like thunder.
• Chris Wamsley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Wakefield office, said there could be various causes of the explosions and lights. A team of people is looking into what happened, he said.
• Lindsey Hosek of the Great Neck area of Virginia Beach was jogging along the water with her dog when the sky lit up, she said.
• “The bright light at first terrified me because I thought somebody was shining a light on me, and then I saw it, and I was in complete awe because it was so beautiful,” she said.
• Then she saw something that looked like a comet moving low toward the ground; it was blue in front followed by orange and appeared to be the shape and size of a refrigerator.
• “It was just so low. It was like where a bird should be,” she said. “It was definitely heading downward.”
• She was on the phone with a friend a minute later when she heard an explosion.
• Kenneth Martin of Chesapeake’s South Norfolk neighborhood said he saw what appeared to be lightning, then the sky turned blue.
• Then, he said, a white ball of fire shot close to the ground and appeared to burn out. He said he’s sure it was a meteor.
• “It was so vivid in the sky, blinking,” he said. “It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen.”
  
  No damage was reported, the Weather Service said.

• Speculation was increasing today that the display was the result of an embarrassing failed test launch of a jinxed new Russian missile.
• The Bulava missile was test-fired from the Dmitry Donskoi submarine in the White Sea early on Wednesday but failed at the third stage, say newspapers in Moscow today.

• This emerged despite earlier reports denying a missile launch yesterday
• Even early today there was no formal confirmation from the Russian Defence Ministry.
• The light appears to be unconnected with the aurora borealis, or northern lights, the natural magnetic phenomena that can often be viewed in that part of the world.
• The mystery began when a blue light seemed to soar up from behind a mountain in the north of the country. It stopped mid-air, then began to move in circles. Within seconds a giant spiral had covered the entire sky.

• But last night Russia denied it had been conducting missile tests in the area.
• A Moscow news outlet quoted the Russian Navy as denying any rocket launches from the White Sea area.
• Norway should be informed of such launches under international agreements, it was stressed.
• However this morning media reports claimed a missile had indeed been launched from the White Sea. Test firings are usually made from the White Sea, close to the Norwegian Arctic region.
• Kommersant newspaper reported today that a test-firing before dawn on Wednesday coincided with the light show in the northern sky.
• It also emerged today that Russia last week formally notified Norway of a window when a missile test might be carried out.

• This included a seven hour period early on Wednesday at the time when the lights were seen.

• The submarine Dmitry Donskoy went to sea on Monday, ahead of the test, and some reports suggest the vessel is now back in port.
   

   

  A Russian military source said today that 'the third stage of the rocket did not work'.
• The Russian Defence Ministry, with characteristic secrecy, has so far been unavailable for comment.
• The Bulava, despite being crucial to Russia's plans to revamp its weaponry, is becoming an embarrassment after nine failed launches in 13 tests, prompting calls for it to be scrapped.
• In theory, it has a range of 5,000 miles and could carry up to ten nuclear weapons bound for separate targets.
• The Norwegian Meteorological Institute was flooded with telephone calls after the light storm yesterday morning.
• Totto Eriksen, from Tromsø, told VG Nett: 'It spun and exploded in the sky,'

• (THE SUN) — A MYSTERIOUS giant spiral of light that dominated the sky over Norway this morning has stunned experts —
• who believe the space spectacle is an entirely new astral phenomenon.
• Thousands of awe-struck Norwegians bombarded the Meteorological Institute to ask what the incredible light — that could be seen in the pre-dawn sky for hundreds of miles — could possibly be.

  As of now, this phenomenon has no logical explanation–although news is trickling in that it might be a Russian missile gone awry. Hmm.

• Also, make note of the DATE when the ’sign’ appeared. December 8–the day when many Catholics celebrate ‘the Feast of the Immaculate Conception’, the day when Mary was supposedly conceived ‘without sin’ (a doctrine that has no Biblical basis).
• The ‘Marian’ imagery continues when you compare the spiral image over Norway with the painting to the right.
• Notice how Crivelli included a curious ‘UFO’ type image that is beaming something into Mary’s head?
• With Obama in Oslo and most of the world’s leaders in nearby Copenhagen, such a ‘miraculous’ sign in the sky demands our attention.
• CERN has restarted, and television shows like ‘Flash Forward’ hint at dimensional portals opening during LHC events.
