Telekommunikationskonzerne, ihre Macht über die Infrastruktur, die das
Internet in jeden Haushalt bringt ("Kabel") dazu nutzen wollen, um eine
Art Zwei-Klassen-Internet aufzubauen. Ein schnelles für die
Content-Anbieter, die für diesen Service bezahlen und ein lahmes für
den Rest der Welt. Dadurch ist eine Grundfeste des Internets, die
soggenannte "Net Neutrality" in Gefahr. "Net Neutrality" bedeutet, daß
die Inhalte Aller gleich schnell über Internet transportiert werden
(zumindest durch die Kabel-/DSL-Anbieter). Dies ist eines der
Prinzipien, die das Internet so vielfältig und erfolgreich gemacht
haben – und den Riesen unter den Programmanbietern (TV) ihr Monopol
streitig machen.
Die Kampagne macht explizit Wind gegen AT&T, TimeWarner, Bell und
Verizon. Diese werden in dem plakativen Filmchen als Ausserirdische
dargestellt, die das Weisse Haus in den Griff bekommen wollen, um
entsprechende Gesetze zu bewirken. SaveTheInternet versucht hingegen
ddurch öffentlichen Druck ein Gesetz zu durchzusetzen, das die
Net-Neutrality garantiert. Es kämpft des Volk der guten Amerikaner
gegen die bösen Ausserirdischen Konzerne (sind die nicht auch
Amerikaner?). Am Ende gewinnt die USA. Die Flagge wird auf dem Kapitol
gehisst. Die Marke USA ist wieder in frei, siegreich und in Sicherheit.
Für mich Alteuropäer ist dies schon sehr eigenartig anzusehen, wie hier
der Brand Amerika (frei, siegreich, sicher) im den den Kampf für ein
tatsächlich gutes Anliegen benutzt wird. In einer Art und Weise, die
sich nicht großartig davon unterscheidet, wie Bush und seine
Kriegstreiber den War on Terror verkaufen (frei, siegreich, sicher).
