To set the privacy settings of imported bookmarks, first, "Initiate the privacy settings" of all imported bookmarks as either public or private. And then, privacy settings, tags, and title can be further changed individually in the import window before importing, or in batch on the website after importing.

- Search Box: pull-down to specify search category and conduct search using the default search engine in that category. For Internet Explorer, mouse-over the down-arrow to the right of the search button to access other search engines in the same category. For firefox, access other search engines in the submenu.
- Use the Word find and Highlight buttons to the right of the search box, to find and highlight words in the search box on the current page. (Note that this highlight, unlike highlighting by clicking Diigo button, is not saved)

- To add Sticky Notes, left-click a highlight.
- Public Sticky Notes can be seen on the page by all Diigo members with the Diigo toolbar installed, and its viewing mode set to "Public". Private Sticky Notes are viewable by the author and any forwarded recipients.
- Public highlights and Sticky Notes should be done with care. To minimize graffiti and spam, we have raised the bar for making public highlights and sticky notes: you need at least two friends in the Diigo community to do so. ( To get a friend, invite one to sign up with Diigo)
- View Mode on the toolbar: The view mode can be set to public, private, or disable on the toolbar. When set to "public", you can see all highlights and Sticky Notes. When "private", you can see your own highlights and private Sticky Notes. When "disable", you see the original page intact.

Quick Tips for Advanced Users
This section assumes you have already installed the Diigo Toolbar.
The tips in this section skip a lot of basics and screenshots, and concisely cover the salient features and designs of Diigo. For advanced users, watching Guided Tour and Flash Tutorial, and then reading these tips is probably a quick way to become familiar with Diigo.

- My bookmarks: your most recent bookmarks are shown in the pull-down menu. You can also enter filter criteria to pull down tagged bookmarks.
- Search Box: pull-down to specify search category and conduct search using the default search engine in that category. For Internet Explorer, mouse-over the down-arrow to the right of the search button to access other search engines in the same category. For firefox, access other search engines in the submenu.
- Use the Word find and Highlight buttons to the right of the search box, to find and highlight words in the search box on the current page. (Note that this highlight, unlike highlighting by clicking Diigo button, is not saved)

- Check "Unread" for pages you want to re-read later. "Unread" pages show up in "My Bookmarks" on the web as darker links. Opening a "Unread" link turns it to "read", and lightens the link color.
- In addition to the Diigo website, you can simultaneously save your bookmarks with other bookmarking services, as well as locally. Go to the Toolbar Options panel to set up.
- For Microsoft Internet Explorer, checking "Add to Links" will cause the bookmark being saved in your local folder Favorites/Links, in addition to being saved to our server under a special tag called "Links". The bookmark will then show up there in your browser's Links Bar if it is visible. If you used any other tags in addition to the special tag "Links", then the first tag will be shown as a folder on the Links Bar. (All these may sound complicated, but try it and you will find this is a great way to save frequently used bookmarks)
- For Firefox, "Add to Bookmarks Toolbar" will do the same, except the local folder is now Bookmarks/bookmark toolbar folder, and Firefox uses the term "Bookmarks Toolbar", instead of "Links Bar".
- To add bookmarks without installing the toolbar, you can use the Diigolet, or on the Diigo website, use "More Actions" pull-down menu and select "New Bookmarks"

Use the floating menu over highlight to delete it or to add sticky notes. If the floating menu is disabled (in Options), simply left-click it to add sticky, and right-click to delete it.
