Tagging Basics

Why Tags?

Every webpage you bookmark can be tagged with as many tags as you like. Basically, tags are keywords associated with the content you're bookmarking. Compared with folders, tagging provides a more versatile way to organize, sort and find your favorite contents. And as an important element of social bookmarking, tagging makes it easy to discover contents of interest to you and find people that share common interests.

Navigate with Tags

Tags provide a great way to filter and discover information. For example, clicking on a tag anywhere gives you a list of bookmarks for that tag by yourself or another user of the Diigo community; removing the person associated with that list (by clicking the orange minus sign)  gives you the list of bookmarks for that tag by the entire Diigo community; clicking the orange plus sign in front of a related tag further filters the bookmark list.

Input Tags

Tags should be space-separated, and are case-insensitive. To use a phrase as a single tag, either put quotation marks around the phrase, or use hyphen between words.

Tags used by other users for the same webpage will be auto-filled, and show up as default, but you are free to edit according to your personal preference.

Pull-down at the tag input form shows the list of your own tags.

Typing directly into the tag input form will show a list of your matching tags:
