extra insulation on tank on 2009-11-17
-
The tank has extra insulation and I rate that as a high priority. As we are economical with water a small amount of heat one day can kick start the next day. In fact I want to insulate it even more by boxing it in with loft insulation and sealing the top with 100mm+

If you price a pallet of 25x60w Kaneka Panel from that site above @ $172US then divide that by 0.90 for our dollar conversion, include a 25% on the top for shipping and insurance plus a possible GST compnent rounding up to $7000AU this gives $280 per panel (4.66/w).
A brief search online gives an Aussie price of $550 ($9.10/w)... also scores you 186 REC's under Solar Credits!

DIY Solar Hot Water | Paul's esoteric meanderings on 2009-11-12

I considered putting the tank on the roof, but my house was built a little agriculturally and I didn’t trust the roof to handle 300kg+ sitting up there. I later regretted this decision and should have braced the roof and sourced a roof mounted system.

eBay again to the rescue got me a Hot Water Circulating pump that seemed fair quality and definitely heavy duty – $125. The fittings of course were some weird size, meaning more money later.

Thoughts on Solar HWS and Boosting « ATA Forums on 2009-11-12
-
We use around 170-200l/day for a family of 3, so hot water use would be around what Munter says (50-70l per day), so a 315l tank I have found has enough capacity to see us through 3-4 days of solid rain.
Keep in mind, the solar storage tank potentially stores water at a higher temperature than gas/electric storage units, as they are thermostatically controlled around 60 -
degrees, whilst solar storage tanks go up to 95 degrees, before they cut out.
So potentially a 315l solar storage tank will have greater yield than a 315l gas/electric system.

Apricus Or Hills Evacuated Tube Solar HW System? « ATA Forums on 2009-11-12

Another MAJOR issue is the use of 304L grade stainless steel for the tank rather than 316 (marine grade). Areas with poor water quality will result in rapid corrosion and leaking of that tank. If a tank is going to be made using stainless steel for mains pressure potable water use it should be 316 or higher grade.

Why would someone buy a Android phone? - Android - Mobile Phones - Whirlpool Forums on 2009-11-11
-
Any advantage that Android phone shows over iPhone?
The iPhone requires iTunes to install
- music onto the phone
- applications onto the phone (that have been approved by Apple). So Apple decides what you can and can't put on YOUR phone. The iPhone needs a third party application to transfer YOUR photos to YOUR computer.
There is no expansion memory capability in the iPhone.
When the battery dies you can't buy a new one and change it yourself.
The iPhone is a pay as you go system.
The iPhone does have a nice interface and it's responsive.
The iPhone won't allow VoIP over 3GSo the iPhone could be good, if it wasn't so restrictive.
It's really the AOL of mobile phones.Android is open source.
You can install anything onto it, from anywhere.
You can transfer files and photos to your computer by just dragging them (sounds easy until you try this with an iPhone).
You can buy a second battery and swap it over.
There is usually a memory expansion socket to increase storage.
Android does allow VoIP over 3G.
Android has a nice interface but it's not as responsive (due to the current hardware, which will soon change).

!!!AZBOX or Dreambox on 2009-11-09
-
Azbox hardware is much better than any Dreambox I have owned.
Az HD tuner is very good on weak signals.
Firmware needs improving, but it is perfectly useable now.
I don't feel like I am losing anything from not owning a DM8000. :) -
i took the plunge and bought azbox hd premium from sponsors a month back now im not technically clever as other people on this az forum but using gorans alternative guide i successfully upgraded the firmware and added plugins so im quite happy with my choice i thought it was a daunting task to start with but now it holds no fears i also had to buy a vbox to steer my 1.2m dish which i still have to setup properly but at the moment i'm renovating the living room so it will have to be on hold at the moment im sure you will annoy the missus with the hours you put in setting up your box but it will be fun so enjoy automan2:respect-055:

HDMI/DVI-D over Cat5e ISSUES on 2009-11-08
-
While
twisted pair cables are easy to run, there are a lot of environmental issues
that must be observed to ensure proper operation. Twisted pair cabling carrying an audio-visual
signal should not be run within one foot of fluorescent lights or more than
three feet parallel to high voltage lines.
Twisted pair cabling, such as Cat 5, carrying an audio-visual signal
should not be passively split or routed through a hub or switcher. Finally, you
cannot transmit data and digital A/V
over the same length of Cat5e.One
final issue detracts from the Cat5e solution.
Due to the extreme bandwidth requirements of HDMI and DVI digital video these
transformer-driven systems require two runs of Cat5e, one of which must
be a shielded Cat5e. If the project is
taking place in a retrofit situation you cannot
use a single run or an unshielded dual run.
At least one cable – the cable used for the actual image information –
must be shielded. The chances of finding
shielded Cat5e run in a building are only slightly better than the odds of
winning the Irish Sweepstakes! Still,
Cat5e is small and easy to route. And it
is ultimately the least expensive solution if you must install a run of
more than 100’.

I saw those 2 kinds at the same place. I bought the Taiwan's (even if it had +20 Euros instead of the China's one.)
