About this list
In addition to content standards (common core and other state standards), there are also technology standards - expectations for students. Ideally these will be integrated into the learning of other subjects by classroom teachers - not taught separately by "technology" teachers.
The sections below provide links to standard sets for students (and teachers!), models for technology integration (TPACK and SAMR), and ideas for how to implement them in your classroom.
National and state (NC) standards for K-12 students
National Educational Technology Standards for Students from ISTE - what K-12 students should know and be able to do - adopted in 2007.
North Carolina Essential Standards located here can be easily accessed one grade level at a time. Clarifying objectives can be expanded under each goal, and there is also a link for each goal to aligned resources to support that goal.
This page provides an overview of recently adopted Essential Standards for North Carolina K-12 students. They replace/combine into one set of standards the old computer skills and information literacy curricula. Use the link on the left to visit the Essential Standards page for specifics. From that page, either scroll down or use the link at the top to jump down to "Information and Technology" where you will three links to a pdf file for each grade range - K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
Teacher standards and technology integration
National Education Technology Standards for Teachers from ISTE - what teachers of K-12 students should know and be able to do - adopted in 2008.
Great page from Kathy Schrock with resources about Dr. Ruben Puentedura's SAMR model of technology integration - explains hope that teachers will move beyond Substitution to Augmentation to Modification to Redefinition - not just using technology as a substitute for the usual ways of doing things, but to redefining teaching and learning tasks in ways not previously possible. Scroll down on Kathy's page for her own thoughts about SAMR and for a list of resources from others including graphics and videos.
From Educational Technology and Mobile Learning - posts about SAMR model of technology integration - posts include good visuals, charts, and apps.
Pinterest board with great resources on the SAMR Model of Technology - created for teachers by Mrs. Malespina, the media specialist at South Orange (NJ) Middle School.
Great video created by Clare Kilbane to explain the components of TPACK - the domains of teacher knowledge and how they should weave together to yield effective teaching and learning.
A brief introduction to the TPACK Framework with a link on page to a more detailed explanation.
Recommendations from the CAEP Commission on Standards and Performance Reporting to the CAEP Board of Directors June 11, 2013
Implementation ideas
Ways to incorporate these standards into your instruction
Great page that renames the ISTE/NETS-S categories into student-friendly language - check the Prezi and the Glogster glog that has links to resources young students can use to demonstrate mastery in each category.
Great resources, ideas, lessons, and examples submitted by teachers. Organized both by standard and grade level. Check out the resources for lesson plans.
