About this list
A collection of tools for collaborating online - having multiple participants contribute. Some use a text stream - as a backchannel, some have sticky notes and other media on canvases, some are shared whiteboards, some support other media uploads.
Canvases
Formerly Wallwisher - new name is Padlet. Online space where people can post ideas - like sticky notes, but can include images, videos, or documents in addition to text. New feature allows option of chronological stream of posts in addition to original option of scattered posts all over the wall.
Free sticky and canvas service - lets you post sticky notes and images and even files of other types. Available online from computer and also apps for android, iPad, and iPhone.
Backchannels
Set up a room others can join and contribute to. "TodaysMeet helps you embrace the backchannel and connect with your audience in realtime. Encourage the room [audience] to use the live stream to make comments, ask questions, and use that feedback to tailor your presentation, sharpen your points, and address audience needs."
"Short guide to using backchannels for increasing participation in classroom discussions and for informally assessing your students' knowledge." Created by Richard Byrne. Gives detailed instructions on TodaysMeet, Wallwisher (now renamed to Padlet), and Socrative.
Whiteboards
"Multi-user whiteboard, real-time audio, document upload, text-chat and more"
"3 private boards and unlimited public boards. Up to 100 files on boards. Unlimited collaborators" Great set of video tutorials from "Take a tour" link.
"a free digital whiteboard that users can share online in real-time. Sorta like pen and paper, minus the dead trees, plastic, and the inconvenience of being at the same place at the same time"
Other
"The W.I.G. stands for 'working in groups.' That's what we're all about! Wiggio makes it easy to work and communicate in groups...We developed Wiggio out of our own frustrations with working in groups. We were tired of sending eleven emails back and forth to set a meeting time. We were fed up with "that guy" who just never knows where and when to be for meetings. We were tired of multiple mailing lists, contact books, phone-chains and incompatibilities. We wanted everything to be in one place, and we wanted it simple."
App for iPad/iPhone - "multi-device collaboration tool... from iPhone to iPad with just a flick of the finger" Watch the demo video linked from the site's homepage.
