"We must do everything possible to improve the graduation rate, first of all for the young people themselves, whose future depends directly on their education, and also for Québec, which needs its young people in order to meet the social, economic and cultural challenges facing it. Encouraged by the support that has been expressed by civil society, the government intends to pursue this objective. "

"Action Plan on Reading in School\n\nAcquisition of the language of instruction is an indicator of educational success, and comprehension of written material is the foundation of learning in all subjects, in both elementary and secondary school. Reading is Essential to Success in School\n\nThe Action Plan on Reading in Shool is intended to improve access to high-quality material, pedagogical and cultural resources and to implement a series of measures to ensure efficiency.\n\nIn recent years, a number of university research projects on the contribution of reading to young peoples's success in school have shown that reading plays an essential role throughout their education and is one of the key factors that contribute to their success. In addition, it has been demonstrated that good reading habits acquired before children begin their formal education help them at every stage of learning, in every subject, and contribute to making lifelong readers. This speaks to the very essence of the Action Plan on Reading in School implemented by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport in 2005."

"For many years, violence in the schools has been a concern for school staff, parents and the different organizations and institutions that work with schools. Violence is a serious and complex problem that transcends borders, commanding the attention of a number of researchers.\n\nWhatever form it takes, violence in the schools has a negative impact on young people, their academic success and their quality of life at school. Indeed, observations from researchers and testimonies from the field tend to confirm that violence in schools creates an unhealthy atmosphere and breeds mistrust, feelings of not belonging, low self-esteem, anxiety and isolation, and increases absenteeism, academic failures, the number of dropouts, and so on. It is easy to understand why the school community and parents would like to see more action on this issue."
