The Forgotten Attachment Detector (FAD) is a Grassroots Project from Bhavesh Chauhan. Bhavesh works in Hyderabad, India, as a Software Development Engineer for Microsoft’s IT team. He created FAD as a side project in his personal time, and Office Labs is helping him release FAD publicly and collect data on its usefulness. Like other Forgotten Attachment Detectors on the web, when you send an email FAD checks it for keywords that indicate you’ve forgotten to attach an attachment. If it detects this, it notifies you and gives you a chance to correct any mistakes.

"Your kids can do a great job on even the toughest school projects with just a computer running the Windows operating system and the right information resources. Research no longer requires a trip to the neighborhood library, because a whole world of information—and the tools to put it all together—are right at home on your family computer."

"

"Books take up space. That's a problem for any librarian tasked with finding room on overcrowded shelves. It's also a problem for a book-loving scholar who lives in a small New York City apartment with a toddler and more than 3,000 books. Under those conditions, something's got to give. Chances are good it won't be the toddler.
Alexander Halavais, an associate professor of communications at Quinnipiac University, found a partial solution to his city dweller's no-space-for-books dilemma: Slice and scan. A digital file takes up a lot less room than a codex book does."

"Over the past 10 years, online content has accumulated at an exponential rate, making it increasingly difficult for people to find the information and entertainment that is the most relevant and interesting to them. The tools to help people discover, consume, and share content have not evolved over time to match people's changing needs, nor have the applications people use to interact with content kept up with the increasing capabilities of computers and expanding technologies."

"One month after launching in Kenya, startup Txteagle Inc became one of the country’s largest employers with a workforce of 10,000 Kenyans. Let’s look at what Txteagle does and the implications for managers and employees worldwide.
In 2008, former MIT Research Scientist Nathan Eagle founded Txteagle, with the idea of marrying crowdsourcing to cellphones. Txteagle deconstructs work into microtasks that can be performed on any simple mobile phone through texting. Txteagle distributes the microtasks to thousands of workers (currently primarily in Africa) who complete them and get paid via the mobile phone either in airtime minutes or in cash through the M-Pesa service.
“Txteagle is a commercial corporation that enables people to earn small amounts of money on their mobile phones by completing simple tasks for our corporate clients,” says Eagle."
