Find short videos to answer your questions about particular programs and tools. Take professional development that you need. Get ideas for ways to use technology in the classroom.
YouTube is a great place to find out how to do something using technology. Try just searching for the name of the tool you are using/learning for an overview (such as Diigo) or search for a specific thing you are trying to do (such as embed video in PowerPoint).
TeacherTube is also a great place for how-to videos. It is also a place to find videos created by other teachers that you can use in the classroom. Sometimes they are goofy and have that homemade feel about them, but sometimes they'll have just the thing you need.
Bloglines is an RSS feed aggregator. In plain English, that means it monitors feeds and brings you the information you are interested in. Use it to keep up with your favorite blog, monitor a particular news story, or be the first to know when items you are looking for are posted on CraigsList.
iGoogle offers a much easier option for setting up ready-made feeds, but I prefer being able to create my own feeds in Bloglines.
Here, students can store and work on documents (like Word), spreadsheets (like Excel), and presentations (like PowerPoint). No more emailing files back and forth, no more worries about incompatible versions of software!
Flickr is a great place to search for images of places, animals, etc. Try searching the groups to see if there is a group that has your interests. Search for the term "classroom" to find how other classrooms are using Flickr.
You can store photos here, but you can also do some basic photo editing.
RESEARCH TOOL
Easy Bib allows you to generate, format, alpahbatize, and export to Word. The downside is the advertisements, plus some language used may be unfamiliar and confusing to students.
RESEARCH TOOL
Citation Machine has easy-to-understand forms for students to complete for generating works cited entries. There is no advertising or registration. The downside is that users must copy and paste entries into a document and must do their own formatting and alphabetizing.
RESEARCH TOOL
Noodle Bib requires a free registration, but is a great tool for students just learning to cite sources. Noodle Tools also offers many other tools that facilitate the research process.
Comedian Louis CK talks about how spoiled we have become with technology.
