Ginny FranklinCreate either MCQ or free text poll and receive responses via Twitter or web browser on smartphone (there's an SMS option but this will be too expensive).
On smartphone - go to PollEv.com and type your voting keywords
Via Twitter - include "@poll" and perhaps a pre-determined hashtag
Text message, web, twitter, and smartphone responses can be instantly combined.
Free Text Polls show a live Text-To-Screen wall (which can also double as a powerful Twitter visualizer), and Multiple Choice Polls show a real-time graph (or hold the results for a big reveal)
Free version allows for up to 30 people to have a single vote. -

Unlike many text message based products, we don't neglect people who may not be big "texters". Distribute the web voting link via email or a web page, and your audience can respond in a regular web browser.
-
Our widgets make it easy
Quickly publish the outcome of polls in web pages, blog posts, web forums, a conference website, courseware, digital signage, interactive art displays - pretty much anything that works in a web browser.
Just copy-paste the HTML code.
Publish a voting widget
Want people to vote right from your web page with a single click? No problem. We have a widget for that too.

How Poll Everywhere Works

Janetta GartonAnother service that can be used as a student response system is Poll Everywhere. They have a nice Web interface that looks great on a laptop or mobile device. Poll Everywhere can also take responses through text messages. Students text in their answers to the teacher's question using identifying codes. Be aware that Poll Everywhere and Google Docs do not provide feedback to students since there is no way to indicate correct and incorrect answers. While there is a free Poll Everywhere plan for K-12 classrooms, the $50 per year plan gives teachers the ability to see individual student responses and to approve text-based responses before they appear for the whole class to see.
