January 10th, 2007 at 9:46 pmV7 Navigation 1000 (M) Menu-button bug fix
Those who have a V7 Navigation 1000 have probably noticed that the Menu (M) button doesn’t actually go to the menu. It doesn’t do much of anything actually (other than behave as “up” for a few menus), which is quite disappointing since there are only really 3 buttons you can use on the front (excluding the backlight on/off button) and the other two you will usually want to keep at their default functionality (zooming in and out).
Oh hey, what do you know - if you followed the instructions in my last blog entry, you will have access to change this!
1.Take the v7 sd card and put it into a card reader wich you can plug into a usb port to your compuer
2.Browse to \Flash Disk\MyGuide\ in Explorer (on the PC).
3.Copy the 1.3mb Data.zip to your PC’s hard drive.
4.Rename the Data.zip on the GPS to Data.orig (as a backup).
5.Open the Data.zip that you copied to your PC and extract config\keybind.txt from the archive.
6.Open keybind.txt in Notepad and scroll down to the [CARPOINTA1000] section.
7.Below this, add the following line: UP=”MAINMENU”. The section will now look like this:
[CARPOINTA1000]
UP=”MAINMENU”
39=”ZOOMIN_DISCRETE”
37=”ZOOMOUT_DISCRETE”
8.Save keybind.txt and replace the original keybind.txt in Data.zip with your edited keybind.txt. Make sure that you actually replace the file and that it goes into the correct directory of Data.zip.
9.Copy the updated Data.zip back to the GPS (put it back in \Flash Disk\MyGuide\).Done and done! You can now start MyGuide and the Menu (M) button will now behave just like going to MAIN MENU
You can actually replace MAINMENU with many other useful commands, of which ROUTEINFO is a good choice. As it is obviously the intended behavior of the Menu buttons is MAIN MENU. Have a look through keybind.txt to get an idea of what other commands you can try.
Of course, if you don’t use the zoom in/out buttons, you can change the bindings on those too.

January 10th, 2007 at 9:50 pmV7 Navigation 1000 (M) Unlocking
I have a V7 Navigation 1000 gps unit that i have managed to sort of unlock. While doing some research i think this is the same as MyGuide 3000.
Anyhow on the flash card that comes with the GPS you have a file called addons.txt , simply put this line in…
Windows = “”, “\\”
Save it and put it back in the gps and you will have a windows button appear and then just tap on it 2 times and you are in windows ce !!
This is the U.S model and im desperately trying to get it to work with european maps and would apprechiate any input from the experts. Thanks!!
I’ve actually posted full instructions on opening up the V7 Navigation 1000 on my blog.. http://www.technofumbles.com/weblog/
It does require opening the unit and making (minor) hardware modifications to expose a USB port, so be warned that you will likely void your warranty. Having said that, it gives you full access to the device so you can change anything you want - including make bug fixes. ;)

[modules]

Now explorer will always available in the front.

February 19th, 2007 at 8:57 pmMore, to change the voice you like, take a look in “Flash Disk\data.zip”. Under “ui\settings” there is a lang.ini file. You can edit it to fit your way
For example, I use English US as the language but I will like to use the UK female voice as the guidance. So I edit that lang.ini….
[languages]
lang = “english US”, “ui\settings\flag_usa.bmp”, “English (US)”, “english_m1_us”I change it to
lang = “english US”, “ui\settings\flag_usa.bmp”, “English (US)”, “english_f1_uk”Now I can enjoy the voice more while still using the US english as the language. Even though I don’t know what’s the difference between US and GB English.

April 10th, 2007 at 2:56 pmRaymond - the number I have for tech support for North America is 866-217-9887. (You might have trouble getting to talk to someone as I think it’s a one man office! - just keep calling).
I did not have to return the old SD card.Marcel - Just go to the GPS data screen (touch the little satelite dish), and then select ‘Time Sync’ in the top right corner. Then make sure ‘Auto Correction’ is on, and then set your local time in the PDA field. The unit will then remember your local time correction. (Make sure you have a satelite time signal first).

April 19th, 2007 at 6:20 pmYes the update for the MyGuide 3000 does work on the V7. Basically, what it does is remove the date and time stamp that is on the main start screen. I imagine that they did this since the time was so messed up anyway, why bother showing it at all.
It appears that after you start the navigation, the time will eventually get updated to the correct time zone as long as you have provided the correct time zone in your settings screen. It switched a couple of times for me +- an hour but after a few minutes, it finally got it right.
The one thing to know is that after you install the upgrade, you will have to re-patch your V7 if you want the M button to go back to the main menu again.
At least this helps a little.
Now, where are those new maps and POI’s?

April 23rd, 2007 at 8:15 amDave,
Good observation as to the Hotfix title being in German as well. I guess that I wasn’t paying attention to that one. :-)
Hotfix - works with the V7
Upgrade to 6.1 - does NOT work with the V7I apologize if my posts prompted anyone to run the upgrade instead of the hotfix. It certainly was not my intention to confuse the two files that were available for download. From what I have been reading, even if someone did install the upgrade, there is still a way to restore your old flashdisk files to the V7 (providing you made a backup).
There are so many devices on the market that utilize the same map files that I’m sure they are being thoroughly tested to make sure they are compatable with every one. It will be nice to finally see my house next to a road instead of in the middle of a field!

September 8th, 2007 at 12:20 amI talked to Anthony today and he sent me information on how to ship the V7 back for the upgrade but there were some major differences from what the pdf instruction on their website says.
The first difference was the price. It said it costs $129 to upgrade.
It also says that I need an RMA before I can send it in but after when he emailed the info to me, he did not include the RMA #.
Here is a quote from the MS Word file he sent me.
(Note the difference in what it says you get for the free update in ‘4d’)

This outlines the procedures for installation of map updates. Based on agreements in place with TeleAtlas, we are only able to do this work in house. i.e. we cannot sell a CD or allow a download. Accordingly, this is the procedure for maps for USA & Canada:1) Map dates: latest is 2006.10, released in January 2007. Map settings on the device will reflect 2007.1 dates.
2) It is not assured that with these updates previously ‘not found’ addresses will be found. It is highly recommended that potential update customers verify any particular address by visiting the TeleAtlas URL: http://mapfeedback.teleatlas.com/index.htm
3) If after this search customers wish to update the maps, there is a fee involved of $ 129 for the update. This update can only be done on our premises in California based on our technology and TeleAtlas contract.
4) With this fee, Ares will
a. Update the firmware
b. Update the maps for North America and supply you with Premium Maps (4 million points of Interest – POIs) on a 2 GB SD card
c. Pay the return postage to the customer.
d. Where customers bought this device between June 7 - September 7, 2007 please contact support@aresdigital.com (Last date of purchase is 7th September 2007) Standard maps and POI data are free; Additional POIs with premium map data will cost $ 129 -

October 12th, 2007 at 5:09 pmDarryl,
The only official way to get the V7 to run the latest maps is to send it to V7 in the U.S. for upgrade (about $100).
Go here v7.freeforums.org/ and read how to get iGO software running on the unit, and then you can run the latest maps.
