      V7 Navigation 1000 (M) Menu-button bug fix

      Those who have a V7 Navigation 1000 have probably noticed that the Menu (M) button doesn’t actually go to the menu. It doesn’t do much of anything actually (other than behave as “up” for a few menus), which is quite disappointing since there are only really 3 buttons you can use on the front (excluding the backlight on/off button) and the other two you will usually want to keep at their default functionality (zooming in and out).

      Oh hey, what do you know - if you followed the instructions in my last blog entry, you will have access to change this!

      1.Take the v7 sd card and put it into a card reader wich you can plug into a usb port to your compuer

      2.Browse to \Flash Disk\MyGuide\ in Explorer (on the PC).

      3.Copy the 1.3mb Data.zip to your PC’s hard drive.

      4.Rename the Data.zip on the GPS to Data.orig (as a backup).

      5.Open the Data.zip that you copied to your PC and extract config\keybind.txt from the archive.

      6.Open keybind.txt in Notepad and scroll down to the [CARPOINTA1000] section.

      7.Below this, add the following line: UP=”MAINMENU”. The section will now look like this:

      [CARPOINTA1000]

      UP=”MAINMENU”

      39=”ZOOMIN_DISCRETE”

      37=”ZOOMOUT_DISCRETE”

      8.Save keybind.txt and replace the original keybind.txt in Data.zip with your edited keybind.txt. Make sure that you actually replace the file and that it goes into the correct directory of Data.zip.

      9.Copy the updated Data.zip back to the GPS (put it back in \Flash Disk\MyGuide\).

      Done and done! You can now start MyGuide and the Menu (M) button will now behave just like going to MAIN MENU

      You can actually replace MAINMENU with many other useful commands, of which ROUTEINFO is a good choice. As it is obviously the intended behavior of the Menu buttons is MAIN MENU. Have a look through keybind.txt to get an idea of what other commands you can try.

      Of course, if you don’t use the zoom in/out buttons, you can change the bindings on those too.

      V7 Navigation 1000 (M) Unlocking

      I have a V7 Navigation 1000 gps unit that i have managed to sort of unlock. While doing some research i think this is the same as MyGuide 3000.

      Anyhow on the flash card that comes with the GPS you have a file called addons.txt , simply put this line in…

      Windows = “”, “\\”

      Save it and put it back in the gps and you will have a windows button appear and then just tap on it 2 times and you are in windows ce !!

      This is the U.S model and im desperately trying to get it to work with european maps and would apprechiate any input from the experts. Thanks!!

      I’ve actually posted full instructions on opening up the V7 Navigation 1000 on my blog.. http://www.technofumbles.com/weblog/

      It does require opening the unit and making (minor) hardware modifications to expose a USB port, so be warned that you will likely void your warranty. Having said that, it gives you full access to the device so you can change anything you want - including make bug fixes. ;)

      Runtime Software's free DriveImage XML can help you save the day. Use it to backup
      logical drives and partitions to image files, then restore the images to the
      same or a different drive. Also good for HD upgraders to copy directly from
      drive to drive. Best of all, it's free.

  • Philips DVD Recorder w/ Digital Tuner, DVDR3505/37 - Wal-Mart on 2007-11-01
    • I first bought this recorder but returned it when I found that it would not properly flag a widescreen recording as 16x9. In fact, not many recorders will. What happens is all images are recorded as 4x3 so if you set the recorder as 16x9, widescreen will be recorded squished and if you record as letterbox, it will record with black bars top and bottom.
      Recently I re-purchased the 3505 because I discovered that if you use a RW disc, you can copy it to a PC and use the freeware Ifoedit to change the recording to 16x9 with letterbox and pan & scan enabled. Find the instructions on the Internet. Then re-burn to a new disc. This way, it will show widescreen on a widescreen TV and letterbox on a 4x3. I prefer to set it on Pan & Scan since the image looks like a regular TV image and won't have to worry about re-flagging the recording.
      The SDTV tuner is excellent.
      Make sure you go to the Philips website and download the latest firmware that is supposed to address the memory problems. My machine was made in Feb 2007. When I tried to do the firmware update, I noticed that the original firmware version was greater than the update so I didn’t do it. My machine retained the stations even when I had it unplugged for several days. I only had to reset the clock (needs resetting after 30 seconds of no power per the manual).
      I had some problems with a +RW 2.4x but had success with +RW 4x and –RW 2x.
      Overall, I like this recorder very much. Very good price compared to other SDTV recorders.

      From Publishers Weekly

      Opening with a chapter titled "How to Make 500 to 1,000 Percent on Your Money," this book offers a compelling argument that real estate is an auspicious way to invest. Carr warns readers, however, that "what they won’t find here are unbelievable claims of overnight successes that will load up their bank accounts in just a few weeks." Rather, he provides a practical, step-by-step explanation of how the real estate market works, how to develop an understanding of it, who the key players are, what various loan programs offer, how to negotiate and how to avoid problems with renters. A former real estate editor for The Washington Times, Carr includes plenty of details about the basics—enough for novices—without being patronizing, and hits upon seemingly complicated topics like foreclosures and tax liens with accessible language and concise arrangement, including bullet points and sections that make dense text nicely readable.
