Manu MadhokThis wonderful site is the work of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, in cooperation with the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, Widmeyer Communications, and the Learning First Alliance. Its mission is to challenge middle school mathematics and emphasizes the importance of high-quality math education for all students. While it was created to allow for family interaction, it is also figures into the Math PBL classroom. The site allows students to have the opportunity to face some every day real life math challenges. These challenges feature:
Descriptions of the important math involved
Notes on where the math is used in the real world
Hints on how to get started
Complete solutions to the challenge
A “Try This” section for formative learning

Kenneth GriswoldFrom @NCTM, these math challenges are designed to bring mathematical thinking to the dinner table for families. Teachers will also find many of these problems valuable to tackle with students to support problem solving skills and mathematical practices. The challenges are also available in Spanish.

Rachel WettaOverview of Website:
This website was created to help connect families to their student’s education in school. Not only does this method of engagement help students learn content, but also technology skills required to navigate a website. Created by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the creators are a reliable source for valuable mathematics knowledge.
Content:
The content of this website includes a variety of math challenge questions. These are multi-step problems that would require a high level of critical thinking for students to complete. The challenges include data, statistics, probability, algebra, geometry and measurement among other concepts. Each of the questions allows students to ask for a hint, get ideas on how to start the problem, reveal the answer to the problem, and try similar follow up questions. In addition, the problems are realistic and applicable to students’ lives.
Design:
The design of this website is incredibly simple. All of the tools and links are at the top of the page, and are clearly labeled as to their purpose. The page is also colorful and attention grabbing for the children. The graphics that are included are not only attractive, but they actually add to the page. Some of the graphics even help students solve the problems.
