mrlloyd025ExploraVision is a science competition that goes beyond the typical student science competition and into what it takes to bring ideas to reality. A teacher will sponsor and lead his/her students as they work in groups of 2 – 4 to simulate real research and development. A teacher will guide his or her students as they pick a current technology, research it, envision what it might look like in 20 years, and describe the development steps, pros & cons, and obstacles. Past winners have envisioned technologies ranging from a hand-held food allergen detector to a new device to help people who have lost limbs regain movement in real time.
Competition limited to grades K-2. 3-6, 7-9, & 10-12
Guidelines available (September or earlier??) project deadline Feb 1 -

Jason Schmidt"From water fountains to hearing aids to nanotubes, your teams will choose a technology that is relevant to the world today and then explore what it does, how it works and how, when and why it was invented. Then your teams will imagine their chosen technology 20 years from now and prepare an in-depth report that conveys their visions to others. ExploraVision is a hands-on, minds-on project that simulates real research and development to inspire students and fuel imagination. The ExploraVision program has awarded $4,440,000 to more than 287,000 participants since its inception in 1992; up to $240,000 in savings bonds and Toshiba products are awarded each year."
