This article was interesting because it provided me with ways for developing and using different methods of assessment. The language that the article used was easy to understand and gave examples of what each strategy represented. Strategies such as Strategies for Encouraging Self-Direction and Collaboration and Strategies for Monitoring Progress are definitely ones that I will focus more so on this year with my students. The article summed it up best when it stated that Products are things that students create, sometimes known as artifacts. Performances are things that students do. Portfolios are the purposeful collection of products and performances over time that exhibit the student's efforts, progress, and achievements while student-led conferences are the means by which students share portfolios, samples of their work, and discuss their interests, learning, and goals.
