Tagged.com came in second in terms of year-over-year growth, rising 330 percent to 3.8 million users. In third place was Ning, a unique service that allows users to create their own social network focused on a cause or purpose, such as environmental activism or Labradoodle fandom. Ning grew 251 percent from its 2007 levels to reach nearly 3 million users in September; it was followed by other specializing networks like LinkedIn and Last.fm.
