Online Learning (ongoing)\nCAST offers two self-paced course options that provide participants with an introduction to UDL, both titled: UDL1: A Framework for Addressing Learner Variability: Theory Into Practice. In the \"Facilitated Self-Paced\" course you can work at your own pace but have the benefit of interacting with a CAST facilitator, participating in discussions and completing a course project where you can apply the UDL guidelines to a lesson in your own context. In the self-paced course you can manage your own learning process and take advantage of our Online Learning Experience Guide to help you navigate the course.
Online Learning (ongoing)\nThis facilitated, self-paced course on the role of emotion in learning consists of 14 sessions, and examines how motivation and engagement affect learning and how UDL can be used to facilitate self regulatory skills that support deep learning. Using the UDL Guidelines, participants learn to help students develop the emotional skills that support persistence, motivation, and a belief in their own competence. Participants will also learn how to adapt their own curriculum to target the most resistant and challenging students with practical tools. This is a facilitated experience. Students are asked to discuss their learning with the course facilitator each week, and will receive feedback. At the end of the course, participants apply the UDL guidelines to a lesson in their own context.
Institute April 4 - 5, 2016\nIt is recommended that participants for this institute already have an understanding of UDL. Using the UDL framework and its practical guidelines, participants will gain strategies for presenting UDL background to colleagues, tips for building Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) around UDL, tools to support lesson development and action planning, resources to deepen understanding of the research behind UDL and the UDL Guidelines and look at examples of organizations that have implemented UDL and the strategies that they used to implement UDL effectively.
