This article provides a bit of background on the controversy surrounding continuing to use acronym vs. abbr in XHTML 2.0 when it looked like that spec was just around the corner. For this reason, the article may cause more confusion than it clears up, however, his examples as provided in "a brief history of the internet" are spot-on.
As you web site plan should be very simple, this may not apply to your current project. A good article to consider for your next project, however!
