The Queensland research and development investment strategy 2010-2020 has been developed by the R&D Queensland committee, a whole-of-government committee focused on coordinating government research and development investment with the strategic priorities of Queensland. The committee will oversee implementation and reporting relating to the strategy.

The Australian Public Service (APS) is increasingly being tasked with solving very complex policy problems. Some of these policy issues are so complex they have been called ‘wicked’ problems. The term ‘wicked’ in this context is used, not in the sense of evil, but rather as an issue highly resistant to resolution.

The APS social inclusion policy design and delivery tool kit was launched in August 2009. Its purpose is to change the approach of the APS to policy design and delivery so that the needs of disadvantaged people are better met.

This research examines the impact of vocational education and training (VET), and its project-based
activities and partnerships, on the development of sustainable communities in regional Australia. It finds that VET plays a critical role as the entry point to learning and builds considerable social and other forms of capital in regional communities.

Social partnerships are local networks connecting some combinations of local community groups,
education and training providers, industry, and governments for the purpose of working on local
issues and community-building activities. They are becoming an increasingly widespread organisational form and are considered to work well in expressing and responding to local needs
and building decision-making capacity at the local level.

This report, Sustaining effective social partnerships, builds on an earlier project that identified key principles and practices underpinning the development and maintenance of social partnership. (See S Billett, A Clemans and T Seddon, Forming, developing and sustaining social partnerships. NCVER, Adelaide, 2005.) It used four case studies to see how these principles and practices operate and trialled the self-evaluation tool developed in the first phase of the project.
