From not-spot to hot-spot? Funding for rural broadband
10/11/2009 South West RDA has been awarded an extra £700,000 for rural community broadband. This comes from the European Economic
Recovery Plan, and will be administered through RDPE.
They are planning to support one or two innovative pilot projects which will help to demonstrate both the demand for and delivery of
high-speed broadband access in rural communities.
Deadline for applications: 15th January 2010.

they can apply for a BT Community Connections award today.
BT Community Connections is an award scheme which enables community and charitable organisations to get online. Groups can apply for a
laptop and a year's free broadband connection. Award packages will be given to groups who can demonstrate how an award will benefit
their work and the local community.
Any organisation, working in any field of community benefit, located anywhere within the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland can
apply. In the past voluntary projects, silver-surfers, conservation organisations, family support groups, sports teams and youth
groups have been successful.

20/10/2009 The Homes and Communities Academy is recruiting for a free facilitated 10-week online introductory course on sustainable communities. These will run in the Winter and Spring of 2010. It is aimed at anyone in local government, regeneration, housing or the third sector.
The facilitated course will help develop an understanding of the term 'sustainable community' by exploring the national and regional policy context. It will also consider the roles, responsibilities and skills of the organisations and individuals responsible for delivery and examine putting theory into practice.
