I am Joe Bower and I teach in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. I wish to challenge 'traditional' schooling while exploring more progressive forms of education. I intend on using this blog to uproot some of the most deeply rooted myths that continue to distract people from a love for learning. And I am going to have fun doing it!
I use Google Reader, an RSS feed aggregator, to organise my blog subscriptions. I've found it invaluable to subscribe to as many blogs as possible - I only read a fraction of them but the rest I search. As the blogs are written by educators, principals, administrators, and librarians the results from searching them are focused and authentic - far more so than a general Google search of blogs could ever be. Alternatively, just dip in anywhere at random - there's fantastic learning to be discovered!
Whenever I've stumbled upon a good blog I have subscribed to it. I now have a huge collection which I'd like to share with you - it will save you heaps of time building your own!

teach math. A "difference" is one of the four fundamental operations. The slope of a line is calculated using a quotient of "differences" which, when we first study calculus, evolves into the "difference quotient" (AKA the derivative). Later we study "differential equations."This year at my school, the teachers in my department have decided to focus on using the teaching strategy Identifying Similarities and Differences. But more than all of this, the word "difference" suggests change. The breakneck evolution of technologies on the internet is changing they way we teach. It's hard to keep up. I hope to use this blog to record and reflect on my personal evolution of how to integrate these technologies into my teaching.

"Winston Churchill's said, "Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never, in nothing, great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense." This encourages me to fight, especially for kids in classrooms. They deserve better.
