these different elements of a collaborative are key. a donor collaborative needs to represent more than just a good grant possiblity to a donor. it needs to offer a configuration of other benefits per each donor interest. the best collaboratives will offer the generation of data, knowledge, strategic relationships with other donors and much more that can inform funding priorities into the future. mj

BPP Phase I included both a pooled fund and unpooled fund. The unpooled fund with a grouping of direct grants to the CFs that SI helped to broker. The pooled fund SI managed to deliver communal services/programming.

It is important to consider the design of the collaborative. It should be flexible enough (pooled funding, individual grantmaking support, technical and inkind support options, operations and administrative support to the collaborative) that is offers a variety ways to get involved for donors but not to flexible so that it is unweidly (and therefore costly) to adminster and/or impossible to measure and gauge its collective impact. mj
