    Recommendations for vaccinations when traveling to Turkey are: Hepatitus A, Typhoid, Hepatitus B, MMR (Measles, Mumps and Ruebella) and Tetanus -diphtheria. Rabies is also recommended for those travelors who will be traveling outdoors and at risk for getting an animal bite. Children are at a higher risk for an animal bite as they tend to play with animals. The most common ailement is: food and water precautions. Do not drink any water that has not been boiled, filtered, or chemically disinfected. Do not eat any fruits or vegetables that have not been peeled or cooked. Avoid any beverages from a street vendor. Do not eat any fish or meat that is undercooked or raw. All travelors should bring an antibiotic medication and an antidiarrheal medication. Pharmaceuticals are regulated by the turkish government and could be diffifult to obtain. Americans traveling to Turkey are urged to register with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the States Department of travel registration website.

    When traveling overseas, the most common illness for travelors is diseases from food and water. One of the most common infections that travelors can acquire is from contaminated food and water from Escherichia coli infections - otherwise known as E.coli. Turkey is considered intermediate to high-risk for E.coli exposure. There is a medication available for travelors called Travelan which is 93% effective in reducing E.coli attacks. The antibodies in Travelan neutralize the E.coli by binding to the bacteria and inhibiting the E.coli from attacking the intestinal wall. Travelan decreases the chances of gastrointestinal discomforts for world travelors. It is recommended that one tablet of Travelan be taken before each meal to prevent the risks of obtaining E.coli. The cost of Travelan is about $5.00 per day.

    Travel tips when traveling to Turkey. Money: Travelers will get a better rate of exchange for cash than a travelors check. Exchange places will charge a commission for travelers check and not for cash. When you bring cash, it is very important that none of the bills have any rips or tears in them. Turkey will refuse bills with rips or tears. Credit cards can be used in Turkey; however, it is still advised to have cash access. If you plan on dining in Turkey, tipping with the American dollar is not very well received. It is advised that you exchange money ever few days rather than a lot at once due to the fluctuation of the value of the dollar. If you purchase your visa at your point of entry - make sure that you have cash as they do not take travelor's checks, credit cards or Turkish lira. Americans and U.K. residents need visa's and they are good for three months. To avoid a delay when purchasing your visa when you get to Turkey, apply online before going on your trip - could save you some time. For your visa, there is a non-refundable fee of $26.00 for a single entry or an $87.00 fee for multiple entries. Wear flat shoes for walking and becareful where you step as sidewalks in Turkey are uneven, broken and have lots of unexpected holes. If you are male, do not wear shorts unless you want to wrap a skirt around them. Ladies are advised to wear skirts rather than pants especially when eating at a restaurant as the toilets are simply a "hole in the floor". Wear the clothes that you would normally wear in your country.
