At the Macworld Expo 2009 Power Tools System Imaging and Deployment session today, I was asked to share a “checklist” of cleanup steps I use when building images the “classic” way. Here’s a cleaned-up version of the script I use, with site-specific stuff removed for the most part.
Flash Player 10.3 introduces auto-update notifications for Mac OS X. If you’d like to disable those for your managed clients (because you are distributing these updates via munki, for example), install this package.

You should read this document if you are interested in learning the basics of shell scripting. This document assumes that you already have some basic understanding of at least one procedural programming language such as C. It does not assume that you have very much knowledge of commands executed from the terminal, though, and thus should be readable even if you have never run the Terminal application before.
