• Workplace tattoo policies vary among and within industries.
• But with many contemporary companies stressing commitments to diversity and inclusion, tattoos are becoming increasingly unproblematic across the board.
• Lax tattoo policies for blue-collar and art-related jobs aren’t shocking, but the increasingly tolerant outlook of frontrunners in corporate, educational and medical industries are more surprising.
• As consulting firm CEO John Challenger explained, most employers today would agree that a person’s appearance is nowhere near as important as his or her professional skills.
•  “Even in this tight job market, most companies aren’t going to view tattoos too harshly.  Companies have a vested interest in hiring the most qualified candidate.”

• With tattoos becomming so mainstream, is having some body art something that could cost you a job?

• There was a time not that long ago when tattoos were reserved for sailors, criminals and rebels.

   

  Times have changed, and these days tattoos are a common trend throughout society, but there are still negative stereotypes when it comes to body art.
• It's because of these stereotypes that tattoo discrimination can exist within the workplace.
• Lauren understands there are two sides to the argument in the tattoo debate, but she believes it should all come down to presentation.
• "If someone is intelligent, they're loquacious and are able to conduct themselves in a professional manner within the workplace then I don't think that tattoos should really be an issue."
• Maree Morgan-Monk is a human resources manager in Wollongong and she believes tattoos aren't an issue in the work place.
• "We've got a couple of employees currently working here who are heavily tattooed from the shoulders down to the wrists.
• "It hasn't changed our decisions in terms of uniforms or things like that."
• Maree works for a private health insurance company with little face to face communication with customers, so tattoos are less of an issue.
• However, as someone who has worked in the recruitment business for twenty years, she says tattoos shouldn't impact employment prospects

• Your Piercings And Tattoos Aren’t Why You’re Unemployed

• Listen, I have tattoos. I don’t have any piercings, save for my ears. And if you’re into tattoos and piercings, that’s great. Really! But don’t get huffy when potential employers overlook you for jobs because they’re too visible.
• Tattoos and piercings shouldn’t get you overlooked for a job, but misplaced apostrophes should. Screencaps are just as permanent as ink–if not more so, because it takes more than a laser to get rid of these.
• Potential employers don’t necessarily prejudge based on visible ink and extra orifices
• As long as people in our parents’ generations are still working, showing up to a job interview with “THUG LYFE” or a totes unique Chinese symbol or huge gauges in your lobes may be considered a sign of disrespect–or of someone who doesn’t think too hard or too long before they leap.
