• Wesley's   constant emphasis upon the dangers of riches makes many of us in a wealthy   society very uncomfortable

  • yes, very uncomfortable. why? because we know it to be true at the bottom of our heart? do we get angry because someone is trying to take away our freedom to have things? they're taking away our freedom to do what we want without being checked?
• It was a natural fruit of that love wherewith   each member of the community loved every other as his own soul.

  • oh if we only loved others' souls as much as our own! what would that look like? maybe we wouldn't so lovingly stroke our own toys? Instead, we'd give, but not so much as to go without in a harmful way for ourselves (which is what people always claim will happen if they start giving sacrificially to others).
