Thoughts on Siri
Siri
Why does it go to the internet?
-Apple wanted I'm sure to have this on the phone
-Gathers data to improve service over all (by checking questions people ask that siri cannot respond)
-improve for the individual (if it know's you're habits and your circunstances)
-be able to understand your accent
-tell you: "are you not supposed to be at the gym in 15 minutes?"
-"is it not time to buy some flowers for your wife?"
-if it knows your going away on a business trip somewhere far it could remind you to print out you're flight documents, take you're passport or even remind you to buy a present for your kids
-if it knows you have been researshing the web recently for a specific camera it can bring you news of a new version of that camera.
Does it understand what you say?
Mostly, but not always, and when in a noisy environment it doesn't really work all that well.
I think Siri was not ready, but Apple released it for 2 reasons:
-improvement is faster if we have millions of beta testers
-iPhone 4S needed more distinction from 4
I've seen a video, but it still runs very slowly.
And of course you will have to jailbreak you're phone
So, unlike Microsoft who takes companies to Court to get some cash, Apple just wants to keep unique.
I feel that imitations are always imitations, never as good as the original. I understand their position for example in the Samsung case, which cleared copy pasted buttons and what not.
The problem is where do you stop? Icons, ok, that ws obvious, but form factor (in tablets - which Apple is fighting with Samsung)..hmm. Just innovate, if competitors are only waiting for you're next design to copy, they will always be behind.
Plus, Apple copied Android's notification system.
It's all business.
Even though Apple is upset about some patents, it would be bad for both companies to break these component deals hey have.
Samsung Electronics Co. shipped more than 20 million smartphones in the quarter ended Sept. 30, a person familiar with the situation said Thursday, beating market leader Apple Inc. as well as Nokia Corp., the world's biggest cellphone maker by volume.
Some are arguing over how the numbers are accounted for. Look, is anybody surprised? They sell all sorts of phones: Android, stupid ones, windows phone ones.
How much money they make? that is a different question.
I bet you they which they had been bought now.
