I think this yearly updates thingy is a great idea. not just for the headache that is a managing a huge update every 3 years, but it also makes os x more alive.

ON the other hand the results we're higher than what Apple itself predicted.
Bring in more services with a set of APIs for developers and we might have a home run.

They are not that different a devices. remember that Microsoft lately has been featuring the Xbox as more of an entertainment device than a games centre.
Passwords are such a bad idea specially on small devices like an iPhone. Fingerprint would work soooooo much better.
It should have been there already, since when you buy an app on the iPhone it appears automatically on iPad without password request.
As long as the receipt is encrypted and nobody can get in the middle of it's transaction it's all good. The problem is that Apple never really provided an automated way of doing this in the SDK, as a developer you had to take the initiative.

best explanation for a mini I've seen. Apple does not really do things just because others do it. But it would not be a good business decision to leave such a huge gap in a thriving market. You might argue that's why Apple lost the computer battle in the 90s
