Also working with E.O. Wilson foundation. - Life on earth book on store now. I think this is kind of a demo.

Finally Apple creates an SDK for books and mags. This is much more than school textbooks, this is going to change a lot of things including the way we consume magazines, the way publishers, especially individuals make their products known and the way they make money.

This for me is more like Appstore 2

    ___________

    "Help teachers reinvent curriculum"

    iTunes U - 700M downloads - mostly lectures
    iTunes U app

similar feel to iBooks. Will, they say, enable teachers to do everything on iPad.
    mahogany bookshelf
Teachers can post messages and assignments to their students
    stream lessons
    communicate with students
A bouncy of colleges will be using this.
    FREE on app store

not sure about this thing. There needs to be engagement on a personal level a feel, face to face. I get nervous every time Apple tries to do anything remotely social.

Apple knows that if they can get the brand into people on the early stages of their life, they are much more likely to stay around. And really, they just wanna sell hardware and make money

    • take your old Mac, PC, iPod, iPhone or iPad -- working or not -- and send it to a company where it will be properly recycled. What's really nice is that in many cases, your recycling effort results in cash in your pocket. In some cases that amount can be minimal (£7 for an original 8 GB iPhone) or nonexistent, while others can end up with quite the wad of spendolas (£550 for a Mac Pro 3.33 GHz).
    • head on out to this page on the Apple UK site and see how much your old kit is worth.
    • "We showed the Samsung Chairman the technology with a Samsung Galaxy S that we had coated with HZO and he couldn't believe his eyes," a representative of the company told us. "Samsung is really excited by the tech."

The company has told us that they are also talking to Apple as well, hoping to be able to let Apple make the iPhone 5 waterproof.
      • If Apple accepts it, iPhone 5 is a possibility. I would guesss, Apple will look at it and then find another way of doing the same thing, avoiding licenses.

  • Legal Fights

      • Again, Apple is fighting Android, not really motorola, especially as these patents are all software. I think sooner or later Google is going to suffer a big blow. It is coming, just watch.

But it sound like microsoft's strategy of doing the deals under the table, before they go to court as been more successful. Of course, Apple doesn't want money, but Android dead, but Microsoft is helping in a way.

    • ITC's preliminary decision on Friday, which must still be passed by the entire six-members of the commission, brings an end to a complaint first filed in October 2010 by Apple that alleged Motorola violated several of the iPhone maker's patents

    • latest lawsuits against Samsung have asked a German court to ban the sale of the Galaxy S II and nine other smartphones, along with five tablet models.
    • The new suit was filed in the Dusseldorf Regional Court and cites multiple patented designs owned by Apple in Europe, according to Bloomberg. A separate lawsuit also targets five Samsung tablets, and is related to a September ruling that barred sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

  • Gossip Land

    • Japanese website Macotakara reported on Tuesday that the unveiling of a so-called "iPad 3" along with iOS 5.1 will occur in February, citing both an Asian supplier and a source in the U.S. Despite a rumored early February introduction, the report claims that the new iPad would still launch in early March, much like the iPad 2 in 2011.
      • last year they introduced the iPad on 2nd of march ad introduced a few days later

    • . In one screenshot shown for the iOS Contacts application, there is an option to enter a person's Facebook user name right below their Twitter account.
    • recently-granted patents filed by Apple Inc., one of which is an Apple TV related patent for recording episodic cable TV and credits Steve Jobs as an inventor.
    • The patent goes on to state that the menu items, could, for example, “correspond to television shows that have either been recorded from a broadcast or purchased from a content provider.

  • Feedback

    • Thought that you’d like to know the BBC 5 Live Sports Extra are currently broadcasting live from Dubai, via an iPad and Skype. Total communications breakdown at the Test Match, but the iPad has saved them. They’re not supposed to advertise products on the Beeb, but it has been mentioned every couple of minutes for the past hour and a half.
