This is the "START HERE" site for those wanting to engage in social media for their organization.
From the website:
"Most nonprofits that jump into social media have one goal: See how hot or cold the water is.
Only when they've gotten their feet wet, do they scratch their heads wondering: "Why are we in this pool anyways?"
Four nonprofit strategies you can steal"
From the blog:
"I picked up a copy of Content Rules by Ann Handley and CC Chapman and could not put it down. The books shares the secrets to creating good content on social channels that engages your audiences. They offer principles, how-to steps and tips, and case studies."
Walks readers through the necessary process of determining why your organization needs a blog - or not.
Easy to get through.
A MUST-READ and -USE.
From http://www.nonprofitmatrix.com/2010/07/23/idealware-the-nonprofit-social-media-decision-guide/:
"Idealware has released a well-resesarch guide to help nonprofits make decisions about using social media.
Social media can be useful to your organization… but how useful? For what? What tangible results are people seeing from it? Created in partnership with the New Organizing Institute, the Decision Guide walks you through a step-by-step process to decide what social media channels make sense for your organization via a workbook, guide, and the results of more than six months of research."
An easy-to-read article that highlights nonprofits doing good things and making good decisions for their use of social media. This blog post brings a rational voice to the "gotta use social media" noise around us.
Wild Apricot does the homework for us and identifies information to help nonprofits succeed with their social media efforts.
If you've read Here Comes Everybody, watched a Shirky video on the book or the topic of social media and organizing, this article will offer nothing new.
But for Shirky newbies, this is a quick and easy read with a twist. It challenges the reader to articulate goals and think about their audience (is it really an audience or is it a community).
For those new to thinking strategically about social media, the first half of the short piece is all that is necessary.
While Steve Buttry is writing about journalists and from the perspective of a journalist, the blog post is still quite valuable. Defs are particularly useful and thoughtful.
An easy read.
My question is how we can use the Zappos example in nonprofits in DC. I can imagine many ways. The challenge is to get beyond the easy to the social as the piece discusses.
Before anything else, read this. It is about much more than a personalized note.
It's about valuing your donors and friends. It's about making them truly important and making them feel that way.
Take a look through this list - and don't forget the comments - find something to read to improve the effectiveness of your social media efforts.
Written for journalists, yes, but helpful to everyone. Some good tips.
The Proactive Report is about the shifts in the media landscape, social media strategy and online PR Our aim is to bring you the latest research and case studies that show how technology is changing media consumption and the patterns of communication and behavior online.
Urge you to add to your feed.
What the John A. Hartford Foundation says about this page: "The site is designed to improve your communications skills by providing quality resources online and available when you need them most. "
The author, John Haydon, does us a favor by culling through research, recent papers and articles and other material on fundraising as it relates to technology. The piece has a ton of good and interesting links. All will get you thinking, none will solve your problem, address your challenge, etc.
A useful read for those nonprofits already using Facebook and those who want to add it to their social media portfolio.
The best part for me? The links to others at the end of the blog post.
