Storybird is a visual storytelling community of readers, writers and artists of all ages. The site curates artwork from illustrators and animators around the world and inspires writers of any age to turn those images into fresh stories. Students can create narratives by dragging and dropping illustrations from artists chosen by the site and writing text on the page. They can select imagery either by theme (such as “forest” or “home”) or by artist. Once they have completed their story, students can read and share it as a full-screen novel. To date, more than 2 million members in 100,000 schools have created 5 million stories using Storybird. Visit the site to see how youth around the world have used Storybird to create, discover, learn and connect.
Meograph lets storytellers create timelines with images, text, audio clips and videos on an interactive map. The mashup of different media provides more detail and different perspectives as the story unfolds. Viewers can press the “play” button to follow the timeline from location to location, with videos popping up to tell the story. The latest version of Meograph has built-in features for embedding media and a dashboard for checking page views on previous projects. Also recently added is a graphical authoring tool for uploading media files as well as adding text. A built-in “record” button makes the narration process immediate and simple. To make it easy to share a story, Meograph connects to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, Pinterest and other social networks.
