To me, it doesn't matter all that much where you start unless your budget is extremely (as in starving student) tight. The main thing is just to start doing something, and as you run into limitations and constrictions you can deal with them appropriately. It's not like you're spending a whole lot of money that will be wasted if you choose wrong, whatever "wrong" may mean. It's all just part of your education, including reconsidering earlier decisions and backtracking. You'll gain valuable experience either way.
