Stephanie Majors's List: 2.5 - Researching Credible Connections -Stephanie Majors

  • LEAST AND MOST CREDIBLE

    Most Credible:
Deadly Attack at Kabul Restaurant Hints at Changing Climate for Foreigners by the New York Times

I feel this article is most credible of the 5 for the following reasons:
In my opinion, the authors intent of the entire article was to inform without any bias or political or personal agenda. The maintained an informative yet human element of the story without getting off track and "sticking to the facts", i.e.: using proper citation, using credible sources and offering a fact based information or a historical back story if you will, of what the environment was like in Kabul prior to the bombings). This particular article by the NY Times in comparison to the others, incorporated all 10 of the 10 C's as well as many elements within each individual "C" (i.e.: Content, Credibility, Continuity, etc...). Compared to some other articles I read on the same topic, I can say I actually felt I was informed on an historical, factual, non-satiric, level, which is why I rated this article a 98 out of 100.

    Least Credible:

California Governor proclaims state in drought by Fox News.

I was surprised this was so lacking in most of areas of the 10 C’s. The article was condensed, abbreviated in content and lacking citations and credibility. There was no author indicated and seem to use second hand sources for the entire story. I was shocked considering this was even posted on Fox News. The Lexis Nexis article was clearly better, albeit not by much, but still better than this one.
