Donald Maclean's List: Assessment Tools

SOLAR is an online assessment tool that provides summative and formative e-assessments. It's based on banks of quality-assured question items. These e-assessments cover qualifications at all levels from National Certificate to Higher National Diploma.The summative e-assessments are pre-verified - so centres know that quality is assured. This provides real benefits for both learners and learning providers. Formative e-assessments are available to support many subjects, such as:\n\nInternet Technologies, including Internet Safety, Hairdressing and Beauty, Care.
The formative e-assessments are quality assured, and provide detailed feedback for learners. Learners can access the assessments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using a browser and our new Open Assess portal. Each delivery of an e-assessment to a learner is dynamically generated by the system, based on pre-specified rules. We are also developing a range of web-enabled teaching and learning materials to complement these e-assessments.

The site explains the policies and Regulatory Principles related to e-assessment and provides case studies and resources to help see the principles in context. Efutures has been designed to encourage dialogue between the regulators Ofqual in England and Northern Ireland, SQA in Scotland, DCELLS, in Wales, CCEA in Northern Ireland and stakeholders on the key themes and topics relating to e-assessment, systems and security, accessibility, e-testing, e-portfolios and help and support.
