FRACTIONS AND DECIMALS
Within the NSW K-6 syllabus document, fractions and decimals learning are reached through the number strand and then sustrand fractions and decimals (NSW BOS, 2007, p. 40). The outcomes of the substrand fractions and decimals guide students to learn ' the concept of fraction through everyday experiences', 'equivalence relationships', 'simple operations', 'multiplication of fractions by whole numbers', 'decimals up to 3 decimal places and are introduced to percentages to 'enable interpretation of their use in everyday contexts'( NSW BOS, 2007, p. 40).
