The Key Missing Ingredient In Leadership Today
6 comments, 6 called-out + Comment now
We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.
Winston Churchill
Most leadership writing today advises us on how to prosper within the system or perhaps even on flourishing despite of the system. What’s missing? Real leadership is about transforming the system.
Leadership is not merely about success. Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King were great leaders, not because they were successful within their different worlds, or even because they were successful despite the constraints of their worlds. They were great leaders because they transformed their worlds.

Leonardo Da Vinci is often called a Renaissance Man (or Polymath). This means he’s someone who has interests and skills in many very different areas of knowledge. Nowadays, there is so much information available on the internet that we could literally read for our entire lives and not read the same thing twice. Do you think people should be ‘pretty good’ at a wide variety of things, or should we specialize and become an ‘expert’ in one thing? Read this quote from Robert Heinlein and see if you agree (post a response on your blog):
Know Your Internet: What Is Pinterest and Why Should I Care?
FEB 9 2012, 2:16 PM ET 12
On the cold, crowded beach that is the Internet, another monster wave has been spotted on the horizon. This wave is called Pinterest and it looks like it could be -- or already is -- the Next Big Thing in social media. This week, Techcrunch blared, "Pinterest Reaches 10 Million U.S. Monthly Uniques Faster Than Any Standalone Site Ever," based on Comscore data. Last week, a study was making the rounds that claimed to show that Pinterest was driving more referral traffic than Google+.
