Turning Points in History : The Battle of Kahlenberg (Vienna) 1683
Battle of Vienna 1683
The Battle of Vienna (German: Schlacht am Kahlenberg, Polish: Bitwa pod Wiedniem or Odsiecz Wiedeńska, Turkish: İkinci Viyana Kuşatması), Ukrainian: Віденська відсіч (Viděns'ka Vidsič) took place on September 12, 1683 after Vienna had been besieged by the Ottoman Empire for two months. The battle broke the advance of the Ottoman Empire into Europe, and marked the political hegemony of the Habsburg dynasty in central Europe.

Hapsburg defend Vienna; win war over Ottoman Turks
1683 - 1718
The Ottomans made one last attempt at conquering Vienna in 1683. A huge Turkish army surrounded Vienna and laid siege to it. After holding out against great odds for two months, the city was relieved at the last minute by a mixed force of Hapsburg, Saxon, Bavarian, and Polish troops. Therefore the Ottomans were forced to retreat. The Hapsburg then conquered almost all of Hungary and Transylvania by 1699. The Turkish wars and the great expansion gave the Ottomans a sense of unity.
