• Digital literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share, and create content using information technologies and the Internet.

• What is Digital Literacy?

• Digital literacy is when students are able to engage with multi-media to read and interpret text, sounds and images. Digital literacy is when students can  manipulate and evaluate data to construct their own meaning. Digital literacy also includes a student having knowledge about  how to use technology to construct meaning, but most importantly in ways that are appropriate to their needs.

• A digitally literate person can use technology strategically to find and evaluate information, connect and collaborate with others, produce and share original content, and use the Internet and technology tools to achieve many academic, professional, and personal goals.

• Digital citizenship is usually defined as the "norms of behavior with regard to technology use." It encompasses digital literacy, ethics, etiquette, online safety, norms, rights, culture and more. Microsoft recognizes that good digital citizenship, when you use computers, gaming consoles, or mobile devices, promotes a safer online environment for all.
• Managing your online behavior and monitoring your reputation are important elements of good digital citizenship.

• Digital citizenship is the norms of appropriate, responsible technology use.

• But citizenship means more than behaving responsibly, it also means that we should be civically engaged: voting, keeping current and having our voice in political matters, and contributing to society.
• In short, digital citizenship means the ability to use technology safely, responsibly, critically, and pro-actively to contribute to society. 

• for educators: “The quality of habits, actions, and consumption patterns that impact the ecology of digital content and communities.”
• for students–with some moral imperatives and implied advice–could be: “the self-monitored habits that sustain and improve the digital communities you enjoy or depend on.”

• A digital identity is an online or networked identity adopted or claimed in cyberspace by an individual, organization or electronic device. These users may also project more than one digital identity through multiple communities. In terms of digital identity management, key areas of concern are security and privacy.

• Digital identity refers to the ways and means that identity is created and perceived in the digital world, i.e., online. It includes unique descriptive data, as well as information about relationships. That is, it defines a thing both in and of itself and in relationship to other things. Both a person and a company can have a digital identity and while a person always has a concrete identity in the world, businesses may have a storefront identity and establish a digital presence as they establish an online presence in order to do business online. Alternatively, the digital identity may be the one and only identity.

• Our digital identity, or tattoo, is the permanent collection of data about us that is available online.  Each time we post a picture, a blog, a status or a tweet, we are adding to that digital identity.

• Its existence on the Web becomes a currency that can be unscrupulously traded and abused.
• An individual’s digital identity which is used for transactional purposes has crucial functions which give it legal personality.
• Identity theft is defined using the emergent concept and the study shows that digital identity is property which capable of actually being stolen and criminally damaged.

• 9.   Digital Security (self-protection):   electronic precautions to guarantee safety.
   In any society, there are individuals who steal, deface, or disrupt other people. The same is true for the digital community. It is not enough to trust other members in the community for our own safety. In our own homes, we put locks on our doors and fire alarms in our houses to provide some level of protection. The same must be true for the digital security. We need to have virus protection, backups of data, and surge control of our equipment. As responsible citizens, we must protect our information from outside forces that might cause disruption or harm.

• The full definition of Digital Security (self-protection) is: taking necessary precautions to guarantee electronic digital safety.
• Digital Security is simply about being secure about everthing that is electronic.

• Digital security is the protection of your digital identity - the network or Internet equivalent of your physical identity. Digital security includes the tools you use to secure your identity, assets and technology in the online and mobile world.

• In sum,
  • Critical thinkers are by nature skeptical. They approach texts with the same skepticism and suspicion as they approach spoken remarks.
  • Critical thinkers are active, not passive.  They ask  questions and analyze. They consciously apply tactics and strategies to uncover meaning or assure their understanding. 
  • Critical thinkers do not take an egotistical view of the world. They are open to new ideas and perspectives.  They are willing to challenge their beliefs and investigate competing evidence.
  Critical thinking enables us to recognize a wide range of subjective analyses of otherwise objective data, and to evaluate how well each analysis might meet our needs. Facts may be facts, but how we interpret them may vary.

• Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. It includes the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking. Someone with critical thinking skills is able to do the following : 

   
   
  • understand the logical connections between ideas
   
  • identify, construct and evaluate arguments
   
  • detect inconsistencies and common mistakes in reasoning
   
  • solve problems systematically
   
  • identify the relevance and importance of ideas
   
  • reflect on the justification of one's own beliefs and values

• All of the following are considered plagiarism:

  • turning in someone else's work as your own
  • copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
  • failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
  • giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
  • changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
  • copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on "fair use" rules)

• plagiarism is defined as “the deliberate or reckless representation of another’s words, thoughts, or ideas as one’s own without attribution in connection with submission of academic work, whether graded or otherwise.”
