• India is considering taking multi-pronged retaliatory measures against the European Union over the latter's carbon-emission-cap norm from January 1, 2012, for all airlines operating within and into the EU.

• The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion or DIPP under the Commerce Ministry has circulated a Cabinet note among the civil aviation, finance, home and law ministries recommending 26 percent foreign direct investment or FDI by overseas airlines in domestic carriers, reports said.

• The commercial aviation sector in India and the Middle East is expected to achieve overall annual growth of 9 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively, for several years to come and will account for 11 per cent of the total aircraft deliveries worldwide over the next decade.

• he government Wednesday informed parliament that the cash-strapped Indian airline sector is being troubled by rising air turbine fuel (ATF) prices caused by high sales tax and other levies.

• Jet fuel prices have increased by 30 percent since December 2010, and domestic airlines are expected to lose Rs.3,500 crore in the first six months of this fiscal. The fuel comprises 50 percent of the operating cost.
