Personal story, inquiry and universal dynamics - all inseparably woven together - have resulted in my current body of work. The Strap On paintings started as a reaction to our absurd political system where it still seems that those with penises make the rules and shape our cultural norms. Those with vaginas, who are in positions of power, often "strap on" a penis (assume masculine qualities) in order to align themselves with the dominant ruling class. This work has expanded to incorporate a deeper investigation into the amorphous subject of femininity and masculinity.
The palette and compositions have been simplified, so the essence of the communication can be experienced in all of its complexities. Spaciousness allows for countless interpretations and projections. Blue skin tones create a dream-like quality, which is both disturbing and compelling. Though the imagery may be puzzling and disorienting in content, I prioritize aesthetic beauty. Visually erotic and sensuous, with themes of dominance, control, and isolation, these images expose the shadows in the human psyche so that they may be digested and made whole. « On est dans le monde suivant la manière dont on le voit. »
Georg W. F. Hegel
A collection of drawings, paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, literature and film from established, obscure artists to the masters.
Landseer achieved enormous success with his scenes of animal life, which ranged from the heroic to the sentimental. This is one of several Highland scenes where the stag is portrayed as a noble beast: having endeavoured to hold the hounds at bay by retreating to a deep stream, the stag is defiant even in his final torment, before the deer-stalker's fatal shot. As a primordial contest between man and Nature, the subject of hunting had been an important theme in British art since at least the eighteenth century. Here the sense of struggle is intensified by the tumultuous scenery.
