With the advance of technological innovations into our lives , education has been radically transformed and teachers who do not use social media and educational technology in their teaching no longer fit in the new system. That’s why every educator and teacher should reconsider certain values and principles .
By now we all know about Google Search and Google Docs... but here are 8 specific tricks you can use with Google to enhance your classrooms. I could easily have created a list of 100+ ways to use Google...but for now, let's stick with these 8 tricks you may not have known about already.
A website that gives countless resources and articles on using technology in the classroom.
The first area I explored on Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators regarded the subject I want to teach, history and social sciences. The particular resource I explored was bibliography.com by A&E. The main reason why this resource caught my attention is because as a history teacher I want students to research a historical figure and this site will give them plenty of ideas and a basis for research. The site also allows a user to view a historical figure who was "born this day in history", giving a nice historical tidbit to start the day.
The second area I explored regarded the section on teacher helpers and was entitled "Gadgets and Pod-casting." Within the site I discovered an article entitled "Using a Digital Camera in the Classroom." At first I though using a digital camera in the classroom was absurd but reading through the ideas I quickly realized the benefits. I want to utizie a large majority of them in the classroom such as a virtual field-trip, a day in the life, and student of the week. The section that referred to social studies also gave me plenty of ideas including tour booklets and digital scavenger hunts.
After testing on the subject of geography for 10 minutes I donated 860 grains of rice. After watching my mom, a sixth-grade teacher, use this site in her classroom I see the potential. I could easily use this as a way to get my students more familiar with geography, a subject I feel is losing ground in education. Further after donating their rice they can investigate the places where the rice goes thus putting a face to their efforts.
