Tom Daccord of EdTech Teacher Resource has put together an annotated list of websites recommended for student use about a variety of history topics. In addition to general research websites, they have included multimedia content that will engage students. Lesson plans and activities for teachers to use are also included. They provide an easy to find search box.

About.com expert on ancient history, N.S. Gill, provides this directory. It is arranged as four tabs covering ancient history, wars and peace, myths and legends, and heros and villains. Each tab provides popular links, "must reads," links to important people and other topics including blogs and FAQs for browsing. The format is visually appealing, but readers will have to sift through ads and allow time for scanning the site content.

The Multnomah County Library has a homework center that has put together numerous databases on various subjects that students might need to research, including ancient cultures. In a simple, direct format links are provided for megasites, as well as 23 specific ancient cultures from each continent. The database was updated in 2011 and directs students to sites that are easy to read and navigate. Free online tutors are available.
