"Jean began her career in Human Resources Management. She then taught in primary schools in Inner London for nine years before coming into higher education. She has taught on all levels of education courses including under-graduate, post-graduate certificate, Masters, EdD and PhD degrees. She has taught as a visiting fellow or professor at universities in Europe, Asia and North America. At her previous university Jean also set up and ran a degree course for serving teachers in Hong Kong. She has also undertaken an extensive range of international consultancies, including work for the ODA/ DfID, the British Council and CfBT in the Far East and Africa."

My research interest lies mainly in governance, education policy and politics of education. At present, I explore issues relating to increased audit, evaluation and output control in the public sector, primarily within an education policy context.
My Postdoctoral Research Fellowship project is financed by the Swedish Research Council (2008-2012) and addresses the Swedish national school inspections. The project aim to describe, analyse and critically examine the tension of simultaneous centralisation and decentralisation in contemporary Swedish education policy by studying the agenda, implementation and effects of the revived national school inspections. -
