The Information Center for the Environment (ICE), in the Department of Environmenal Science & Policy at the University of California, Davis, in cooperation with numerous collaborators, is developing databases containing documented, taxonomically harmonized species inventories of plants and animals reported from the world's protected areas. These databases provide access to information that is otherwise largely unavailable via the internet and provide a mechanism for protected areas and protected area systems to publish their species inventories when they would otherwise be unable to do so.
The tool contains indicator values on the ecological preferences of more than 1000 species of birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish, butterflies, dragonflies, aquatic macro-invertebrates and vascular plants. These values are linked to policy-related pressures and environmental variables.
