    • China will not consider changing its one-child policy for at least a decade for fear that a population surge could spark social and economic instability,

this is talking about the abuse that chiese orphans have to go through. Because people are not allowed to have more than one child and most people want boys they will put the girls in orphanages and they are mistreating them in the orphanages. This is a direct result of the one child policy mixed with the social feelings of rural chinese culture.

a response to the other article talking about the abuse and neglect in an orphanage in China. This article says that it is because of the underfunding of the oprhanages that the low pay result in low morale of the workers which leads to neglect but it is not so much a purposefully murder of children.

    • Many of the girls were quite normal but seemed to have been abandoned for economic reasons or as a result of China's one child policy and the preference for boys.
      • its the one child policy!

    • "I looked at the medical records of all these cases and examined the death certificates. What upset me most was that sometimes I saw new orphans who were healthy when they were admitted, but within a short period they died."

Article talking about how no one has brothers and sisters in china where the one child policy is enforced. Talks about the author's personal reaction to this policy although they do not live in China.

    • Revered leader Deng Xiaoping brought in the policy in 1979, at the beginning of China's era of economic reform. He believed that to make the reforms work and improve living standards, China had to limit the growth of its huge population.
    • One recent study says the decline will cut 0.7 per cent a year off the annual growth of the economy by 2030.

The irony is that a policy intended to aid China's rise as an economic power may end up strangling its growth instead
