• The high court's support for affirmative action has been weakening  through the years. Since 1991 the court has included Justice Clarence Thomas,  the lone black member and a bitter foe of affirmative action. In his 2007 autobiography, Thomas wrote that  his Yale Law School degree set him up for rejection by major law firm  interviewers. "Many asked pointed questions unsubtly suggesting that they  doubted I was as smart as my grades indicated," he wrote. "Now I knew what a law  degree from Yale was worth when it bore the taint of racial preference

• Overall, the odds favoring the admission of a black applicant with the same  grades and test scores as a white applicant were an astonishing 442-to-1.
  

• However, voters in Michigan have since passed an amendment to the state  constitution that bans the use of affirmative action in the public arena. Two  other states, California and Washington, had already taken similar steps. So is  it time to get rid of affirmative action?
• • Love what this guy is saying he makes the same point that I believe. The best part is he is a minority so it gives a better perspective coming from them.

• • How are they necersarily driving them out and besides the SAT math doesn't necesarily persist to science in any way. If he said the ACT science he could prove a point but his argument is flat.
• "Well, it turns out that black students interested in science who attend schools  where their math SAT scores more closely match that of other students persist in  science at much higher rates, even though the average SAT scores at these  schools is lower ... The institutions with the poorest track records for  producing black Ph.D.s in science are getting the best minority students — and  then driving them out of science at twice the rate of white students...

• • The top corporations and CEO's and high up buisness men aren't all diverse. This is a big assumption that every buisness is diverse which isn't true. If you are talking international buisness then that is different because this is true in interacting with other countries then their is diversity.
• They realized that the leaders of tomorrow needed exposure to diverse people,  ideas and perspectives. These companies found that individuals educated in a  diverse setting were more likely to succeed, and they had very concrete examples  of these benefits. ... People who were educated in a diverse setting were more  likely to facilitate creative problem-solving approaches... They are better able  to work with diverse business partners, clients and employees."

• The university acknowledges it has used race as a factor in admissions,  relying on a complicated point scale to rate applicants. Grades and academics  are most important, but members of "under-represented" racial and ethic minority  groups have received extra points, as do children of alumni, athletes and men  enrolling in nursing programs. Gratz's lawyers called the points granted for  race a "super bonus," equivalent to a full grade point on a student's GPA.

• Harvard isn't the only elite institution to see this trend play out. Inside  Higher Ed magazine cited a study published in the Sociology of Education  which found that selective colleges enroll just 2.4 percent of native black high  school graduates but 9.2 percent of immigrant blacks. Another study cited by  Inside Higher Ed, published in The American Journal of Education,  found that 27 percent of black students at selective colleges are first- or  second-generation immigrants. However, this group makes up only 13 percent of  all black people between the ages of 18 and 19 in the United States, leaving  little doubt that immigrant blacks are over-represented in elite academic  institutions
