Here are my notes are for my grade 8 Computer Programming students. I continue to add to and edit these as different topics and questions arise. These are not designed to teach you how to program, but to help you remember the specific details of things we've discussed in class.
This is the official documentation for the Pygame modules, classes, functions, etc. We use Pygame extensively in grade 8 computer programming class.
This is one site for generating r,g,b numbers used in my programming class.
This page allows you to download the Python interpreter to your PC (Python already comes with Mac and Linux). Computer students should download the 2.7 version (version 3 has some differences from what you've learned in class). You'll need this if you want to program in Python on your Windows PC at home.
Komodo Edit is an excellent (and free) text editor for programming in Python, as well as other languages. I recommend this editor for students who want to program at home. It's available for PC, Mac, and Linux!
This is an excellent free online book that goes into many of the details of Python. I recommend it to my more advanced computer students and students who have finished my class and want to challenge themselves at the next level.
note - for Python 2.n
Learning to program in Python. This reading is probably above the average grade 8 computer programming student, but if you love programming and want to go beyond what we're learning in class, or you've already taken my class and want to challenge yourself further, this is a good read.
Various technology lectures about Python, C++, Java, etc. Note to my 8th grade students - these videos are most likely above your learning curve, but if you love programming and want to get into the "meat" of Python, feel free to check them out.
This is an interesting example of how to make a text-based console game using lots of "if" and "print" statements and some creative writing. Students, you can make your own "adventure" game!
