interview w/ a notable Spelman alumna
Fresh Air radio interview (by Terry Gross) of the author of a new bio of President Obama's mom. Any interview by Ms. Gross will be great.
Terri Gross is, I believe, one of the best interviewers in long-form journalism working today.
Anna Deavere Smith interviews her subjects and makes award-winning plays by performing their exact words. Check this link for some examples.
Here's another interview with journalist Gwen Ifill, this time for Interview Magazine.
conversation with historian John Hope Franklin, who died recently. Gwen Ifill interviews him.
An excellent interview: they've been following this family since Katrina.
An audio interview (there may also be a transcript) with Roger Rosenblatt, a journalist who moved in with his son in law and three grandchildren after their mother (his daughter) died suddenly.
Browse Poynter for interviews with journalists and others working in media.
Excellent source for how-tos and insight into the world of commercial journalists and other professional writers. Poynter does a good job of tracking the impact of Web 2.0 on journalism, ethics, etc.
Journalism students, please search this site, use the index, browse, etc. and find at least one interview that's interesting to you. *Add it to your links and start reading and highlighting. *Your goal is to identify at least three examples of good questions. *Write in the sticky ways that you could ask a similar question to one of your interview subjects. *Also find and highlight an example of a good follow-up question. *In the sticky, mark it as a good follow-up and say why. What is being followed-up on?
